About Us
The first Edgars store was opened on 6 September 1929 in Joubert St, Johannesburg. Real expansion began in 1935, and in the years since then the company has grown to six fashion retail brands, 720 facias trading in over 440 locations throughout Southern Africa and the neighboring states of Botswana, Namibia, Swazil and Lesotho.
Edcon is the leading speciality fashion retail in southern Africa.
Edcon began the implementation of its expansion strategy, beyond fashion, in the last quarter of 2002, with the purchase of Super Mart (general merchandise, 7 stores) and CNA (books & stationery, approximately 140 stores).
These acquisitions will enable Edcon to service a wider range of consumer needs, while leveraging existing skills and capacity within the Group.
Our online shopping website, edgars.co.za, was launched in September 2000.
