Right now we have a customer who had need one type of catalyst activated carbon for glyphosate syntesis:

Application: GLYPHOSATE SYNTESIS: With this AC they obtain a yield of reaction > 98%. This AC is a catalyst per se, in liquid oxidation reactions using air as oxidising agent. Oxidative decarboxylation of phosphonomethyl imido diacetic acid (PMIDA) for the synthesis of N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine (N-PMG), or glyphosate. N-PMG or glyphosate is the active compound of herbicide Roundup, Monsanto, USA. The oxidative decarboxylation of water solution of PMIDA was performed at 95 centigrade, with air in the presence of these carbon catalysts. Mineral impurities are not involved in the oxidation process since synthetic carbons are quite active. We know that surface properties of active carbons from Norit have been modified by different treatments: oxidation by a solution of NaOCl with 4% active chlorine to create oxygen functional groups, or thermal treatments under N2 to remove them, treatment with ammoniac to introduce nitrogen. Thermal treatments under N2 and NH3, creating basic groups, enhance greatly the activity of the carbon. The nature of the nitrogen functional groups seems to play an essential role in the activity of catalysts.
They are running tests with Calgon type Centaur 80x325 US mesh, and Norit SX1G (raw material: peat, activated by steam with acid washed, particle side D50% 30 microns, Sbet 1055 m2/g, microporous volumen 0.73 cm3/g) but they found the best result with the Norit SXR0 (active carbon form peat).
