Specifications for a Stiff Brush Bristles Skimming System
1. SCOPE
The work to be done by the Offerors for the Panama Canal Authority under this price solicitation consists of the construction, and delivery (providing) of a stiff drum brush bristles skimming system for oil spill recovery.
2. DEFINITION OF TERMS
As used throughout these specifications, the following terms shall have the meanings stated below:
a. System major components - Pieces of equipment that may or may not be fabricated by different manufacturers and are integrated into a drum brush bristles skimmer requested in this price solicitation, such components are: the diesel engine, the hydraulic motor contained in the power pack, the transfer/ suction pump, and the hydraulic motors contained in the skimming head.
b. Oil Recovery Efficiency - The ratio, expressed as a percentage, of the volume of oil recovered to the volume of total fluids recovered. (ASTM F631).
c. Oil Recovery Rate - The volume of oil recovered by a skimming device per unit of time. (ASTM F631).
3. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE DRUM BRUSH BRISTLES SKIMMING SYSTEM
The portable drum brush bristles skimming system shall recover more than 40 cubic meters per hour (252 bbls / hour) of oil from the water surface and be suitable to be used in marine coastal protected water conditions service (up to one meter height waves) according to ASTM F625 standard. The system consists of following parts:
a. A hydraulically driven, flat, oleophilic stiff brush bristles in a drum arranged within a skimming head (see skimming head specifications).
b. A hydraulically driven suction/transfer pump, integrated to the skimming head (see transfer pump specifications.)
c. A power pack that provides hydraulic power to both the skimming head, the suction/transfer pump and oleophilic discs
