SPECIFICATIONS FOR ADULT MILK POWDER
A. FIT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION ACCORDING TO INTERNATIONAL NORMS FOR ADULT MILK POWDER, WITH A VALID SHELF LIFE AT LEAST TWO YEARS FROM THE DATE OF PRODUCTION, AND AT LEAST 18 MONTHS FROM THE DATE ON WHICH THE CARGO ARRIVES AT THE POINT OF DISCHARGE.
• MOISTURE: 2 to 4%
• FAT: 27 to 28%
• PTOTEIN: 25 to 27%
• LACTOSE: 35 to 37%
• MINERALS: 5.7 to 7%
• LECITHIN: UP TO 5 GRAMS PER KILOGRAM (MAXIMUM);
• ACIDITY: UP TO 0.17% AS LACTIC ACID (MAXIMUM);
• ADD VITAMIN A AT BETWEEN 5,000 TO 10,000 I.U PER 100 GRAMS;
• ADD VITAMIN D AT BETWEEN 500 T0 1,000 I.U PER 100 GRAMS;
• RADIATION CONCENTRATE RESIDUE WITHIN THE LIMIT OF 240 TO 280 BQ PER KILOGRAM;
• ADD ONE OF THE STANDARD ALLOWED STABILIZERS USED IN FOOD PRODUCTION, BUT AT A LEVEL NOT MORE THAN 5 GRAMS (MAXIMUM), INDIVIDUALLY OR AS A MIXTURE;
• PRODUCTION MUST BE FREE FROM PATHOGENIC BACTERIA AND THEIR POISONS, INCLUDING THE ABSENCE OF BSE, AS EVIDENCED BY THE PHYTO-SANITARY/VETERINARY CERTIFICATES ACCOMPANY CARGO;
• TOTAL COLIFORM NOT TO EXEED 100 CELLS PER GRAM;
• TPC NOT TO EXCEED 50,000 CELLS PER GRAM;
• AFLATOXIN NOT TO EXCEED THE IN TERNATIONAL LIMIT;
• PRODUCT MUST BE FREE FROM ANTIBIOTICS;
B. METHOD OF ANALYSIS: To ensure compliance with international specifications Analysis will use any or all of the following procedures: EC NO.: 1854/96 L246 dated 27 September 1996, VITAMIN A per file 142, VITAMIN D per AOAC 43.079, and COLIFORM test per regulation EC NO.: 1080/96.
C. PACKAGING AND MARKING: The adult milk powder must be packed in aluminum foil sachets:
a. 50% of 48 bags of 250 grams each, and
b. 50% of 24 bags of 500 grams each.
c. Each sachet will be sealed with either nitrogen gas alone, or with a combination of nitrogen gas and carbon dioxide.
d. Packed in cartons: the sachet will be packed in double-wall corrugated cartons, each carton must contain three flat layers of liner paper: one of them must be between two layers of flute paper which must be well fixed and the number of flutes must approximately be from 150 to 184 flutes per meter in the sheets, and the flute height must approximately be from 2.1 to 2.8 millimeters. Flute paper specifications must be as follows: esential weight of 118 grams per square meter, and thickness of 0.22 millimeters, with a tolerance of 6% the resistance power per square centimeter, the carton must be bound with wide stick tape not less than five centimeters or with a wire, distance between every two stitches must be not more than five centimeters, the carton surface must pass the test of water resistance.
e. Each container must contain only one batch of the commodity, which must be manufactured at the same processing installation on the same date.
