Kindly find herewith below 1st part of the Specs for API STEEL PLATES as follows



Technical Specifications of API Steel Plates



1.                  Steel plates must be manufactured using electric furnace or basic oxygen process.

2.                  The material must be fully killed, and of fine grain size (7 or finer) as per ASTM E-112. Grain size shall be stated in the mill test

              certificate based on actual test.



3.                  Surface imperfections such as but not limited to the following are not accepted:

       Laps, scratches, surface cracks, oxidations, roller marks, pitting, etc.

       No surface imperfections of depth exceeding 0.2mm of area exceeding 10% of plate surface area shall be accepted.

4.                  The plates' surfaces shall be free from oil or grease or paint.

5.                  Plate's four edges shall be sheared to square and straight edges without any shear offset marks.

       Flame cutting is not accepted.

       The difference allowance in length of diagonals of each plate shall not exceed 10mm.

6.                  The tolerance of plate length must be in range of (-0mm / +75mm).

7.                  The tolerance of plate width must be in range of (-0mm / +10mm).

8.                  The tolerance of plate thickness must be in range of (-0% / +5%) of the specified thickness.

9.                  The maximum permissible camber must not exceed 5.0mm in any case.

The chemical composition shall be in compliance with API-5L, if not mentioned separate for each project

(V+Nb+Ti) shall not exceed 0.12%

(Cr+Mo+Ni+Cu) shall not exceed 0.6%

The total Al: N ratio shall not be less than 2 : 1

Ce = C+Mn/6+(Cr+Mo+V)/5+(Ni+Cu)/15.

11.              Minimum Tensile Strength shall be not less than the minimum values shown in the table. Te Yield Strength shall not exceed 0.90 of the

              tensile strength and shall be as shown in the table. The shown values are related to transverse specimens:

Y.S is measured at 0.5% elongation (by extension under load method as per ASTM A 370)



12.               Elongation shall not be less than 30%.

13.               Charpy Impact Test: Test Temp. = (-200C) test to be performed according to API 5L appendix F, Sec. SR5 and absorbed energy for full size specimen in transverse direction shall not be less than 80J as minimum individual value.

14.               Bending tests (180) shall be done and accepted on bending radius of double plate thickness in accordance with A370&E290-97a.

15.               Drop weight tear test shall be performed for 2 samples of each at (-200C) as per (appendix F, SR6 API 5L 43rd edition) SA% shall be not less than 60%.

16.              Hardness should not be more than 240 HV10.

17.              Complete set of materials certificates and UT reports in accordance with type (3.2) EN 10204 must be submitted.
